apostate (ə-ˈpä-ˌstāt) - a person who forsakes his religion, cause, party, etc. A non-conformist.

In autumn 2011, I was having a discussion with my friend Matt about near death experiences and how souls manifested in and out of earthly forms. At that time, I viewed souls as separate, individual entities. I attempted to articulate the process of reincarnation & paused for a moment. Matt then said,

"There's only one soul."

I didn't get what he said at the time, but the more I thought about it, the more apparent the truth became. It's a profound truth & it changed how I viewed life.

I remember once he put $10 worth of quarters into a jukebox at Waffle House & set all of his plays to one song - "The End" by the Doors & then he left the restaurant.

Matt was a man of few words - a lone wolf - a philosopher - an apostate.

Wherever he is now, I hope that his brilliance shines brightly & brings light to the darkest corners of the universe.
